Meet our Native New Yorkers

Just in time for the holidays - we’re introducing our Native New Yorkers adoption campaign!

What is the Native New Yorkers campaign?

A few of our most deserving pups from right here in NYC will have their adoption fees waived to encourage folks to consider them first when bringing home a new pup this season.

Who are the Native New Yorker dogs?

In early October, NYC Animal Care Centers announced they were closing their doors to dog surrenders because they were too far over capacity. We knew we had to help, so on October 20th, our team packed up our van and headed uptown. At the end of that day, 15 boroughbreds joined our Muddy Paws Pack (the most we’ve ever pulled in a single week!). The dogs who came in that week and are still available for adoption are our Native New Yorkers.

Our Native New Yorkers will be clearly marked on our Adoptable Dogs page, so you know exactly who they are and which dogs have their adoption fees waived.

Why is the native new yorkers campaign necessary?

Sadly, many of the dogs who came to us that day are still available for adoption. Despite the overwhelming amount of support to foster these pups, the same can’t be said for adoption interest. Of those 15 dogs, 9 3 of them are still waiting for a family. While we’ve been seeing our dogs from Kentucky get adopted quickly, we can’t understand why these Native New Yorkers are being overlooked. They are friendly, sweet, funny, loving dogs who would make a wonderful addition to any family. So, we are highlighting these amazing New York dogs by waiving their adoption fees to find them all homes before the end of the year.

How can you help?

If you want to adopt one of our Native New Yorkers, the first thing you should do is register to adopt. From there, you have two options:

  • Come to our next adoption event, finish up your registration on-site, meet the pups who are there that day, and adopt!

  • Complete the adoption registration process online (this can take about a week), then when you are fully registered, email us at adoptionmeetings@muddypawsrescue to schedule a meeting with the specific pup you want to adopt.

If adopting isn’t possible for you - please spread the word about these dogs. Someone in your network might be looking to adopt a Native New Yorker of their own!
