12 Days of Happy Tails: Meet Eleanor
Today's 12 Days of Happy Tails features Eleanor: an elegant, velvet beauty from the Animal Care Centers of NYC. She came to Muddy Paws with a low-grade heart murmur, entropion (a condition that causes eye irritation), arthritis, and a limp in her right leg likely caused by an ACL tear and chronic irritation, which later necessitated surgery. Yet despite these ailments, Eleanor remained positive and ready for her forever home.
While hosting Foster Dog Inc.'s Friday Night Foster Club this past spring, Eleanor's adopter Abby stumbled upon her.
Eleanor and her foster Mama, Remi, were one of the dogs Abby interviewed that night. With three dogs of her own already (and fostering regularly!), Abby wasn't actively looking for another dog. But Abby recalls that something about Eleanor just felt… right.
Since Abby picked up her newest pack member, life has been full of laughs: "Eleanor is the sweetest, most tolerant, and hilarious dog I have ever met. She's not what I would call a 'bright' dog, but she's got a heart the size of the sun!" Abby says that Eleanor comes on strong when meeting new people and dogs (and she's a bit intimidating in her looks!), so she tends to scare people at first—but all Eleanor wants is to be friends with absolutely everyone she meets and sees!
Eleanor spends her days at home destroying toys, forcing snuggles on Abby's other dogs, and laying on her back while simultaneously showing off her adorable teethies.
COVID-19 has been the hardest on Eleanor because she isn't able to say "hi" to a lot of strangers as she could before: upon Eleanor learning that she is, in fact, not going to meet her new best friend she spotted down the street from 500 feet away, she cries! Her cries sound like that of a seagull. Yet despite her fearsome outward appearance, Eleanor is just a big lug who ends up winning over every single person she meets with her sweet attitude and velvety head!
Abby recognizes the impact Eleanor has made on her life: "Eleanor completes our family in a way we didn't even realize we needed — she fits in as if she always belonged."
