12 Days of Happy Tails: Meet Jeffrey!

As the year winds down, we're taking a look back at all of the lives that we’ve saved thanks to your support. It’s another year of 12 Days of Happy Tails — stories that touched the hearts of our staff and volunteers. We hope you enjoy reading them as much as we’ve loved all of these special pups.

Today’s Happy Tails is the story of 4-year-old Jeffrey (formerly known as Diesel)!

When Jeffrey arrived in New York from Kentucky, he was full of light and energy but he was missing one thing… his back leg. Before he arrived at our shelter partner Bowling Green Warren County Humane Society, his leg was so badly broken that it required amputation. Jeffrey never seemed to mind - he went on living his life to the fullest. We’re not even sure if he realized he was a tripod! Jeffrey was lucky enough to be fostered by Alex, who works in a dog-friendly office. When Alex brought Jeffrey to work one day, her co-worker Nina was instantly smitten. In Nina’s words:

Jeffery came into our life very suddenly but what perfect timing! When Jeffrey first came to the office he was very shy but once we locked eyes, I fell in love! Immediately I sent a picture to my husband who met him and also agreed. We are huge dog people and had been looking for a pup to enter our family for a while. He has slotted in so perfectly and has opened up so quickly.

We don’t know much about his past other than that he was from Kentucky and was in an unfortunate car accident. But no pity for this boy. Even missing a leg he does not understand he is a tripawd – he is blissfully unaware! He loves running, with walks being his favorite activity. He’ll continually let us know it’s walk time by nudging our hands with a waggy tail. We take him to a local park and watch him sprint up and down. He’s so fast!

Another favorite activity is cuddling – especially with dad. He thinks dad is the coolest person alive!  Of course mum gets her cuddles too. He is smothered with love, maybe sometimes too much.

We go on many adventures together and he comes into the office where he can re-visit his foster mum. He brings happiness and comfort to everyone, with his calm demeanor and loving eyes.

Jeffery has brought unlimited joy to our family. The trust and love we feel is incredible and we are so happy to be his paw-rents. I couldn’t ask for a better boy, we feel extremely lucky!”

This holiday season, please consider making a donation to help us make a difference in the lives of dogs like Jeffrey.
