Rescue Pup Makes Miracle Recovery!

DUKE AND DIXIE - THE DYNAMIC DUO

Meet Quinn: an adorable 10 month-old pit bull mix who was transferred to Muddy Paws Rescue from the Animal Care Center of New York City. Quinn quickly and happily settled in with one of our experienced and loving fosters.

However, at Quinn’s scheduled spay surgery a few days later, we received a chilling call from Pure Paws Veterinary Care: Quinn’s heart had arrested under anesthesia for a full four minutes while Archie, her vet tech, provided CPR, where the chances of survival were 0.6%.  And then a miracle happened: Quinn’s heartbeat returned, and Archie promptly declared “She’s my dog.”

During the CPR, Quinn’s brain was deprived of oxygen — generally, dogs fail to recover from such debilitating side effects.  However, to the astonishment of her vets, Quinn has made a miraculous comeback!

Despite beating the odds, Quinn’s recovery road ahead is a long one. She has suffered a loss of vision (possibly temporary, but potentially permanent), hearing loss, and is a bit wobbly on her feet. But what’s important is that Quinn is with us today, and we are forever grateful to the team at Pure Paws!

After a heartfelt goodbye from her foster, Quinn is now at home with Archie, a canine sibling, and Archie’s young daughter (who couldn’t be more excited!).  We aren’t quite sure yet what Quinn’s "new normal" will be—just as we’re all navigating our own—but what we do know is that she couldn’t have had better vets and techs to support her. Thank you Archie and the entire Pure Paws team!
