We Just Couldn't Say No to Willow

DUKE AND DIXIE - THE DYNAMIC DUO

When Animal Care Centers of NYC reached out to us in April and asked us to take in an obese, senior pitbull mix with flaky skin, we knew couldn't say no! We quickly found a foster willing to pick her up and bring her home on a moments notice - knowing that she would be a challenge given her size, age and medical requirements. After managing to get her in and out of the car (which was not easy due to her weight and limb weakness), her foster Molly named her Willow and got to work helping her feel like her true self again.

Willow was found in an abandoned building before she found her way to NYC ACC, and we learned that her previous owner was struggling with medical complications of their own. Their sister told us how much they loved Willow, and that they'd had her since she was young but knew that she deserved better care than they could offer.

They made the heartbreaking decision to allow us to find her a new home, and we are grateful for their strength.

Willow has been getting the best medical care, and all the love in the world during her time with us, but now it's time for her to find her forever family. We think she's waited long enough!

The Pack Challenge is almost halfway over, and we've raised more than $81,000 of our $100,000 goal for dogs in our care just like Willow. With a gift from you, we can not only continue to give Willow the medical treatments she needs (like cold laser and hydrotherapy pictured here), but ensure that every dog in our care continues to have access to veterinary services.

Willow loves to play with sticks, snuggle in close with her favorite people, and doesn't mind getting baths when she gets a bit itchy. She might be 10 years old, but she's got plenty of spunk and sass to keep her humans laughing! We are grateful to Willow's fosters Molly, Matt and Cesar for taking such great care of her while she searches for her future family. Your gift to The Pack Challenge allow us to provide fosters with everything they need to care for dogs like Willow. Thank you for your support!
