12 Days of Happy Tails: Meet Amy!
As the year winds down, we're taking a look back at all of the lives that we’ve saved thanks to your support. It’s another year of 12 Days of Happy Tails — stories that touched the hearts of our staff and volunteers. We hope you enjoy reading them as much as we’ve loved all of these special pups.
Today’s Happy Tail features none other than our wonderful warrior, Amy. While in foster care, Amy visited the vet for a routine spay that unfortunately resulted in rare and severe medical complications. After she received the lifesaving treatment she needed (thanks to the outpouring of support from our Muddy Paws Pack!), her foster-turned-adopter, Brian, just couldn’t let her go. Hear Brian’s adoption story below and how Amy is doing now:
“In 2020, we fostered many amazing dogs with Muddy Paws, and each dog was incredibly tough to say goodbye to as they went to their new families. Just one week into 2021, we were matched with Amy to foster. With her super cute face, constant need to give and receive love and cuddles, and her goofy, energetic personality, we quickly realized we’d end up adopting her. After Amy had her brief medical scare in our final week of fostering, we welcomed her into our family permanently and we cannot be happier.
Amy loves most things, especially people, and will always greet you with kisses and hugs. There is one thing she really doesn't like however: her nemesis... the ice machine. She can be completely relaxed in her bed, but if our freezer's ice machine decides to make ice, Amy will pop up and run over to it, trying to find the source of the noises while protecting us from the dangerous ice machine.
Amy's favorite game is fetch in the backyard. We can play that with her for hours and she'll never get tired! Seriously, she'll never stop. But you need to make sure you have two balls to play fetch with (so you have one to trade with her when she brings the one she just caught). If she gets a hold of both, you need to chase her around the yard (her other favorite game) until one slips out of her mouth! We get the most joy out of just watching her do zoomies around the yard or inside with her toys, while just being a happy pup and enjoying life.
Adopting Amy has not only given us tons of joy and happiness, but a lot of purpose. She, like so many other dogs that find their way into shelters, may have been dealt a bad hand in life at first, so it's our job to give her all of the love, attention, and kindness she deserves. And she just makes it so easy to do! It's been amazing to see her transform from a nervous pup, and then a very sick one, in her first week to being so comfortable and relaxed with us in our home. We truly lucked out with such a loving, beautiful, sweet member of the family. One that protects us from the ice machine.”
