12 Days of Happy Tails: Meet Sunny!

As the year winds down, we're taking a look back at all of the lives that we’ve saved thanks to your support. It’s another year of 12 Days of Happy Tails — stories that touched the hearts of our staff and volunteers. We hope you enjoy reading them as much as we’ve loved all of these special pups.

Our Happy Tail of the day is the beautiful Sunny. Sunny’s story has a few more twists and turns than your typical adoption, and it’s important to remember that not every happy tail looks the same!

Sunny came to Muddy Paws Rescue from our shelter partner in Kentucky - this was the first step in her journey to find her family. Since she is so cute, it didn’t take her long to get adopted, but when it wasn’t a good match, she was returned to us. While she was in foster, we realized that her breed-specific tendences (like her need for a lot of exercise and mental stimulation) was putting her at a disadvantage for finding a home from our typical adopter. After a few weeks, the Muddy Paws adoption team recognized that Sunny required more than we could provide, so we reached out to the Australian Cattle Dog Rescue Association (ACDRA) for help. So began Sunny’s second step!

Sometimes, it truly takes a village (or a few villages) to give a pup all of the resources they need to find their perfect family - this is where collaboration comes in. ACDRA took Sunny in and found her a foster who was well-equipped to give Sunny all the care and attention she needed - with two other dogs of her same breed! It didn’t take long for Sunny to find her adopter Alyssa, her last leg of her adoption journey. Alyssa shares her story below:

“We saw Sunny on ACDRA’s Facebook. We had been looking for another dog for a little while, and Sunny sounded like she would be a good fit for us. Our other dog, Jasper, needed a confident but not overly dominant dog. Sunny was very cute and friendly-looking, so we brought Jasper to meet her. Jorge and I both fell in love at first sight! Sunny and Jasper were too busy checking out the smells at the park to really interact, but they seemed happy to investigate everything!

With the recent first snow, we found out Sunny likes to jump straight up in the air to catch snowflakes! She also likes to try and catch her reflection in the oven door. Sunny loves her Dad and gets VERY excited at the sound of his truck (I work from home so the dogs hang out with me all day). She is also very good at keeping tabs on me, staying by my side when I don't feel well and snuggling up while we're watching TV. The first night here she fell asleep with her head in my lap.

Sunny loves going places and meeting new people. We have a few dog-friendly stores that we can go to, and she also loves when someone stops by. She even tried to make friends with one of the barn cats at the farm up the road, but naturally the cat wasn't interested. At home if Sunny’s not playing or snuggling up, she likes to watch the cows across the street.

Adopting Sunny made our family feel complete. She and Jasper wrestle and play most of the day. I love seeing how happy they both are!”

Muddy Paws is grateful for each organization and person in our Muddy Paws Pack who played a role in helping Sunny find her home!
