Top 10 Happy Tails of 2022: Meet Layla!
As 2022 comes to a close, we're taking a look back at all of the lives that we’ve saved thanks to your support. Today begins our Top 10 Happy Tails of 2022 — each story is remarkable in their own way and are examples of the heart of our Muddy Paws Pack community. We hope you enjoy reading them as much as we’ve loved all of these special pups.
Today’s Happy Tail is Layla!
Back in September, our staff took the first in-person visit to our biggest shelter partner, Bowling Green Warren County Humane Society since the pandemic began. There, we met Layla; a 52-pound pittie-mix with a white face and brown ears that melted our hearts.
Layla was in rough shape - she had patchy fur and was clearly in need of medical attention, but that didn’t stop her gentle soul from extending her sweetness to all those who gave her attention. As soon as Layla was out of her cage and onto the grass, she immediately rolled over onto her back ready to receive all of the belly scratches she could get. At least four of our staff members were more than willing to give Layla the attention she so deserved. Soon enough, Layla was utterly content and fast asleep. We added her to our transport list, and brought her up to NYC that Saturday.
When Jamey's family dog passed away, they took a breather from having a pet. As the time began to pass, the Jadezuk kids were begging for a new four-legged friend to help fill the missing puzzle piece in their family.
On their list of requirements was that the pup wasn’t a puppy, that they were a good leash walker, and that they were able to adjust to a full household filled with kids and their many friends coming and going. The family heard about Muddy Paws from friends and soon began keeping a close eye on the adoptable dogs website page. They even had their close friends checking the website to scout for their missing puzzle piece, too. “We read over so many profiles… [but] we kept coming back to her face,” said Jamey.
When the family finally met Layla at one of our adoption events, it was clear that Layla was exactly what they were looking for. The Jadezuk’s got to see exactly what stole our staffs’ hearts back in Kentucky, quickly understanding how special of a girl Layla was. Their daughter even insisted that she sleep in her bed to cuddle at night. After seeing that Layla was wearing an Adidas sweater, she also requested that the family buy matching clothes to further fit the part of a complete family. “This is the best day ever!” she exclaimed.
Every morning, Layla smiles when she’s let out of her crate – and the smiles are met by each family member as they take their turns cuddling, taking her for a walk, or simply being by each other's sides. Layla has fit seamlessly into her new home, happily trotting alongside each and every adventure with her new best friends. “Everyone who meets her says the same thing, ‘Layla is the sweetest’,” says Jamey. She wanted to add that “foster families are really the heroes, changing the lives of these animals,” and we agree! Layla’s fur and skin healed up, and so did her heart.
