For our second last 12 Days of Happy Tails, we're highlighting the dynamic duo, Maggie and Grandpa! Their adopter, Julie, tells their happy tails story below:

My children and I had been thinking of adopting a dog for some time. After regularly checking Muddy Paws’s Adoptable Dogs, I saw one cute little guy come and go without acting on it. This showed me the importance of applying quickly! One day, a new colleague joined my place of work who fostered for Muddy Paws, and she sent me a photo of a bonded pair of malteses: Maggie and Grandpa.

We met and walked Maggie and Grandpa at an adoption event—they were delightful! It was 10 minutes of giddy anticipation and we had no idea in that moment how our lives would be forever changed. My heartbeat was anaerobic as I allowed the what ifs? to enter my mind, but my heart (and daughter, Raven) were telling me there was no way to go but forward. Grandpa and Maggie were going to be members of our family and we would figure it out! Raven and I roamed around PetSmart picking out supplies—Muddy Paws provides a list, too!

Bringing Maggie and Grandpa into our home for the first time was beyond exciting. They seemed so joyful and comfortable. What a beautiful sight to see how magically they assimilated right into our system and how much comfort we all seemed to be experiencing from day one! All of the fears I had faded one by one, and were replaced by joy and love. They make our family complete.

While 2020 has been one of the most devastating years in the lives of many, the addition of Maggie and Grandpa to our family has been the most tremendous gift! We’ve traveled together on airplanes and on long road trips, camped upstate and hiked the gorges of Ithaca and the mountains of Acadia National Park, run around the beaches of Maine and taken dog-friendly kayaks (with pup life jackets!) on the Finger Lakes. Grandpa and Maggie are regular and beloved guests at my gym and know their way around Central and Morningside Parks. We love early morning off-leash time in Central Park where Maggie tries to catch Grandpa—though she has yet to succeed!

We’ll be forever grateful to Muddy Paws for bringing them into our lives and for allowing our home to become theirs, forever.
