12 Days of Happy Tails: Meet Lily
Lily, formerly known as Lizzo, is today’s adorable featured alum in our 12 Days of Happy Tails.
When Lily arrived in NY from our partner shelter in Kentucky, she was an adorable, high energy, and very photogenic 2-month-old puppy. Lily was an indoor-only puppy to start as she was too young to have her full set of immunizations. This means that she couldn’t go out on long walks just yet to expel all her puppy energy and had to be kept inside, even during playtime! But Lily was full of life and was bouncing off the walls with puppy boredom. Not to be deterred by this spunky pup, her dedicated foster mom, Lisa, made sure Lily got enough exercise every day with long games of indoor fetch, lots of toys and treats, a bit of training each day to ensure Lily was learning her good girl moves, and some playtime with her older foster sister.
Being as cute as she was, Lily met with a few adopters throughout her month with our pack, but her big personality proved to be a little overwhelming for the average busy New Yorker, and so she continued to wait for her forever family…
One fateful day, at our Dogust Adoption Party, where we celebrated all the rescue pups who don’t have a ‘real’ birthday at Burrow. Lily was partying it up at our special adoption event when she met Alex, who was a part of the wonderful dog-loving team at Burrow.
Alex would send her dad, Art, pictures of all the pups that came through the door. Art had been thinking about adopting for a while but was waiting for the right dog. As the day went on, many pups found their forever families, but Lily still hadn’t found her perfect match.
After the event, Art, who couldn’t stop thinking about Lily, came into the city from Westchester to meet Lily at another adoption event and instantly fell in love with her. Since so much time had passed, Lily was now old enough to walk outside and, after signing the paperwork and finalizing the adoption, Art took Lily on her very first walk outside. She spent some time sniffing the city streets and meeting new dogs and was then ready to get on the train to head up to Westchester with Art. She was pooped from her big day and curled right up into Art’s lap for the entire trip.
And now, Lily is living the good life in Westchester with Art and his son, Max.
Lily loves having a big yard to play fetch in, going on long walks on the aqueduct, laying on the screened-in porch, and taking naps on the couch with her dad. When they go into town Lily says hello to everyone she passes (dogs and people alike), and is constantly winning over people’s hearts.
Art and Lily are the best of friends and Art says he is very thankful that Muddy Paws brought Lily into his life.
This holiday season, you can help us make a difference in the lives of pups like Lily. Please donate to help give hundreds of dogs the chance they deserve.
