Our 12 Days of Happy Tails continue with the one and only Manicotti the Meatball! This gorgeous pup was found on the city streets as a stray and then brought to the Brooklyn Animal Care Center, where we met him as part of the New Hope Partner Program.

This friendly, high energy, people-pleasing Pittie mush sought belly rubs and a forever family. We were smitten. Manicotti was placed in one of our foster homes and was soon looking for a forever home at our adoption events!

Nikki and Thomas fell in love with Mani the moment they saw him on our Instagram account. But timing is everything, and they were not quite ready to welcome a dog into their family.

Two months went by and, by now, Nikki and Thomas were finally ready to welcome a four-legged family member into their home, they saw that Manicotti was still waiting for his forever family.

“We couldn’t believe such a handsome dog would be in a foster [home] for so long, and had to meet him in person.”

At first, Mani was mouthy and high energy when he became part of Nikki and Thomas’s family. But they realized a lot of it was the result of fear, anxiety and some allergies. They found the right diet for him and were firm in his training.

They also made sure Mani felt safe in his home and continued the crate training he started while in his foster’s care.

And it all paid off.

Almost nine months since Mani found his forever home, he, while still a playful pup, is now calmer. He loves to snuggle in bed and “pittie-lean” on Nikki and Thomas.

Most importantly, he’s helped Nikki and Thomas grow in their relationship in the shared responsibilities and fun of having a dog. And the whole family shares in the rewards that a little TLC can bring.

This holiday season, you can help us make a difference in the lives of pups like Manicotti. Please donate to help give hundreds of dogs the chance they deserve.
